The CARICOM Impact Assessment (CIA) study on front-of-package Nutritional Labelling (FoPNL) reveals that Barbados imports the highest percentage of UK Traffic Light warning system products, highlighting the need for a labelling model designed to meet the unique needs of consumers in Barbados. The study also recommends the US Facts Up Front and UK Traffic Light schemes as best suited to achieve the regional population's health objectives. The study, which evaluated different FoPNL models, recommends that consensus on the design and format of the FoPNL model should be reached through the established regional standards development process. The study further recommends strengthening national and regional quality infrastructure for food and nutrition safety and security, and carrying out enforcement through appropriate food safety technical regulations.
