Guyana Harpy Eagles' Tevin Imlach's Half-Century in Vain as Rain Interrupts Super50 Cup Match

October 26, 2023
Tevin Imlach's impressive 80 runs couldn't save Guyana Harpy Eagles in a rain-affected game against Combined Campuses and Colleges in the Regional Super50 Cup.
Tevin Imlach’s high quality half-century went in vain as rain wrecked Guyana Harpy Eagles’ fourth game of the Regional Super50 Cup against Combined Campuses and Colleges on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old made 80 from 105 balls, the only real stand-out as Harpy Eagles were bundled out for a disappointing 177 in the 49th over, after being sent in at the Frank Worrell Memorial Ground.
CCC had reached 86 for five after 15 overs when the showers which affected the two other games, halted the game prematurely and ruled out any chance of a resumption.
Opener Kadeem Alleyne’s robust 27-ball 47 had given CCC a flying start before off-spinner Kevin Sinclair snatched three for 39 to halt the progress.
Imlach had earlier taken centre stage in an innings which contained four fours and a six, holding the innings together until he was last out.
Test left-hander Tagenarine Chanderpaul chimed in with 30 from 61 balls, posting 40 for the second wicket with Imlach, but no other specialist batsman passed 20.
At one stage, Harpy Eagles were going well at 83 for two in the 23rd over but lost their last eight wickets for 94 runs with seamer Akshaya Persaud (2-23), off-spinner Shatrughan Rambaran (2-27) and leg-spinner Abhijai Mansingh (2-48) claiming two wickets each.
Presented with an ideal opportunity for a victory, CCC cruised to 66 for one behind opener Alleyne’s fireworks, which included two fours and five sixes, as he put on 43 for the second wicket with Rambaran (15).
However, Sinclair turned the screws on CCC with his spell which quickly derailed the run chase as four wickets tumbled for 20 runs in the space of 27 deliveries.
