Barbados Football Association President Randy Harris elected to FIFA Council, becoming the first Barbadian on the council. He steps down as Caribbean Football Union president to focus on global football development.
President of the Barbados Football Association (BFA), Randy Harris, has been elected to the prestigious FIFA Council.
Harris, whose career as a football administrator spans 48 years, is the first Barbadian to be elected to the council.
As a result, he announced he would not seek re-election as Caribbean Football Union (CFU) president.
“It is really an honour and a privilege to be elected as a member of the FIFA Council,” he said. “I am looking forward to being able to strengthen the voice of the region at the global table and to continue to support the FIFA president’s vision in the development of football globally.
At the same time, Harris said he remained fully committed to the Barbados Football Association.
The official announcement of his election to the FIFA Council was made on Saturday at the 40th Ordinary Congress of the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) held in St. Lucia. The Congress serves as the annual general meeting for the region’s governing body for football.
Among those in attendance were FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, and presidents and delegates from all 41 Concacaf member associations. (BT)
