August 11, 2024
So Suave triumphs over Renaissance Frolic in Run Barbados, ending the latter's mile race dominance. So Suave's victory raises questions about the best horse in Barbados.
For a second derby day in a row, So Suave lowered the colours of top miler Renaissance Frolic as the question is up in the air about who is the best horse in Barbados.
So Suave, winner of The Old Brigand Rum Cup in his last race at 1 800 metres, ended Renaissance Frolic’s dominance of the mile trip of 1 570-metre races in the Run Barbados.
The Jean Marc Cozier trained So Suave, a winner on derby day last year when he met the Sir David Seale owned Renaissance Frolic for the first time, went down three times in a row at 1 570 to the nine-year-old gelding.
But So Suave has now stopped Renaissance Frolic from winning a fourth 1 570-metre race in a row as top miler Shared Adventure’s record of four 1 570-metre victories in a row over the top rated horses stays intact.
Owned by Nalicia Cozier, So Suave shot out the number one starting gate to the lead and was tracked by Sir Jimmy with Renaissance Frolic in third and his stablemate Brilliant News behind him in fourth, and Sandy Lane Spa Sprint winner Zaeed sitting in last place.
So Suave won by a length from Brilliant News who ran a superb race. Zaeed wound up third and Renaissance Frolic fourth.
The winning jockey was Eric Daniel. The winning time was 136.2. (KL)
