Show Time, at odds of 8-1, dominated the Royal Opera Breeders Stakes, positioning herself as a contender for the Midsummer Classic on July 13, the second leg of the Barbados triple crown. Trained by Kenny Joseph, she outperformed expectations.
Show Time — at odds of 8-1 — made all the running in the Royal Opera Breeders Stakes on Friday Night as she signalled her intentions as a major player for the Midsummer Classic on July 13, which will be the second leg of the Barbados triple crown.
Trained by young upcoming trainer Kenny Joseph, Show Time had run fifth in the Barbados Guineas, the first leg of the Barbados triple crown, which went the mile trip of 1 570 metres, as many race fans had felt she would not get the longer 1 800 metres of the Breeders stakes on Friday.
Sent straight to the lead by her jockey Delano Lopez, Show Time was tracked by 5/2 shot Heroes Day who was three lengths off the leader with Papillion in third and Moschara in fourth waiting to produce her late signature run.
Turning for home for the final time, Show Time accelerated away from the field as a fast-finishing Moschara appeared on the outside, but it was too late. Show Time won by a length and half from Moschara with Heroes Day fading to second and Papillion finishing fourth.
Guineas runner-up Luscious ran a disappointing race ending up fifth as her staying capabilities were in doubt. Winning time was 155.4.
The winning owner who is also the trainer, Kenny Joseph, will be hoping his filly can keep this form on Midsummer Classic Day.The next race day will be June 15.
