Dethroned CWI CG United Women’s Super50 champions, Barbados Women were forced to settle for fourth position when they slumped to their second defeat in the final round match versus Windwards Women at Conree Cricket Center, St Kitts on Wednesday.
The Bajan lasses, who entered the final round in second place on 14 points, well behind new queens Jamaica Women on 24, went down by 44 runs after conceding 233 for nine and responding with 189 for nine in 50 overs.
Barbados captain Kycia Knight was among the runs once again, spanking a third half century in four innings to finish the tournament with the most runs.
Her 64 off 62 balls followed scores of 7, 90, 69 not out, and 42 as she ended the competition with 272 runs.
Twin sister, Kyshona, one of three leading contributors with the bat in the tournament fell for just 18 but the third member of the trio, Aliyah Alleyne remained 49 not out in the losing cause.
Pacer Shamilia Connell returned her best figures (4 for 38), with fellow new ball bowler Allison Gordon, and spinners Keila Elliott, Erin Deane and Naijanni Cumberbatch each taking a wicket.
Veteran West Indies leg-spinning all-rounder Afy Fletcher was outstanding with the bat for Windwards, spanking six fours in an exhilarating, 72 off 81 balls.
Opening bat Namiah Marcellin (30), Zaida James (24), and number nine Carena Noel were the other main contributors for the Windwards ladies who surged past Barbados into third place in the points standings.
Left arm spinner Quianna Joseph, James and seamer Jannillea Glasgow took two wickets for 21, 22 and 24 runs respectively to help restrict the Barbadian batters who were chasing a target of more than 200 for the third time in five matches.
Guyana upset Jamaica by five wickets to finish in second place and Trinidad & Tobago got the better of the battle with hosts, Leewards Women, who were the only team not to record a win.
After a break of three days, the Women’s T20 is set to commence on Sunday with all matches played at Warner Park Stadium in Basseterre.
