Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announces the establishment of a National Advisory Council on Citizen Security to address gun violence and enhance security measures in Barbados.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced the introduction of a National Advisory Council on Citizen Security.
The announcement came this afternoon at a press conference at Ilaro Court.
Mottley says this new development follows a series of meetings with the National Security Council, which convened on Tuesday after her return to the island.
The Council is intended to ensure the widest possible ownership of the actions and considerations needed to prevent Barbados from facing the same challenges that other countries have experienced. “We must ensure that Barbadians do not fall down the rabbit hole that other countries have regrettably fallen into as a result of the access, in particular, assault weapons and automatic weapons,” Mottley stated.
The initiative comes as Government seeks to enhance security measures and address the growing concerns surrounding gun violence and crimes in the country.
