Authorities are addressing the improper disposal of bulk waste at Knights Land, St Michael, urging residents to report offenders. Sanitation Service Authority emphasizes safe waste disposal methods to prevent environmental hazards.
As authorities prepare to remove the bulk waste of a chattel house dumped at Knights Land, St Michael, they are urging residents to report those who discard such waste.
Public relations officer at Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), Carl Padmore, made that plea as he bemoaned the act and pointed out that there were numerous safe ways to dispose of such rubble.
“This was brought to our attention two days ago and we are concerned about it given the fact that this area is one of those areas that was designated in the early part of the islandwide public waste clean up.
“There is no tipping fee at the landfill and we have constantly been urging our bidders to take what stuff they have to the landfill. This has not been happening. It is a reckless act. It’s also a dangerous act because this stuff can get into the drains. There is a canal nearby,” Padmore said.
He cautioned residents not to dump indiscriminately, especially during the Atlantic Hurricane Season which began on June 1. (TSG)
