Alan Patrick Simmons, a 65-year-old businessman, faces charges related to possessing a gun and ammunition without a valid license and attempting to export the gun without a license. Mitigation took place in court, with sentencing set for November 29.
He was all set to leave the island, but his plans were grounded after G4S personnel came across a gun in Alan Patrick Simmons’ luggage at the airport on April 21, 2022.
The 65-year-old businessman, of Windward Gardens, St Philip, was later charged with having a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic pistol and seven rounds of ammunition without a valid licence, attempting to export the pistol from Barbados without a valid licence, and on the same day, fraudulently altering a firearm licence issued by the Commissioner of Police.
The matter came up for mitigation on Wednesday, before Justice Elwood Watts in the No. 2A Supreme Court. Sentencing will take place on November 29.
Simmons was travelling to Guyana and on his way through Grantley Adams International Airport when the gun was found after he placed his carry-on luggage onto the conveyor belt and the scanner picked up the weapon, with the ammunition already inside. The supervisor of security and police were called. (SD)
